Clear

A weapon in the Jagged Alliance series, first appearing in Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games.

Description[]

"The M224 is a 60mm caliber lightweight mortar with a finned barrel, sight, M7 base plate, and a bipod. It was built to handle HE bombs."

Use[]

The mortar in Jagged Alliance 2 is handled in the similar way to the Underslung Grenade Launcher:

  • the shell is loaded to the mortar through the inventory screen;
  • firing it requires to place the cursor over the target.

This weapon is best handled by mercs with Heavy Weapon Specialist skill and Marksmanship at least 90.

Locations[]

  • You are tasked to recover a mortar from the militia unit by Gus Tarballs in the 26th scenario mission of Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games. Afterwards, the mortar is added to your inventory;
  • Random sectors/enemies later in Jagged Alliance 2 - you need to have captured at least four towns to encounter soldiers with mortars in random locations.
  • A mortar and several shells can be found in a few of the factory buildings in Grumm (G2, H2), as well as the munitions warehouse in Alma (H14).
  • At least one mortar shell can be found inside a crate in the SAM Site south to Cambria. Those appear after choosing a difficulty level different than Novice.

Notes[]

  • A very powerful explosive weapon that can effectively knock out grouped enemies.
  • In Deadly Games, mortars are capable of blasting holes in the roofs of buildings, which will allow a second mortar shell to hit anyone inside.
  • Alongside the M72 LAW, the mortar is one of the few weapons capable of damaging tanks with any effectiveness. It works especially well against two tanks grouped together.
  • In v1.13 Mustard, Smoke and Illumination Shells are available in addition to the standard explosive shells.
